Confused by conventional nutritional wisdom?  Think a bowl of oatmeal, fruit and orange juice the ideal breakfast?  Think again.  Breaking your fast is one of the most important meals of the day, it should not be skipped nor should it consist of pure carbohydrates.  Doing so would only spike insulin levels thereby promoting fat accumulation.  While fruit itself is very good in moderation, grains are far from nutritional powerhouses and juice is too high in sugar.

The above breakfast would be an appropriate macronutrient balance for most people.  The portions would need to be adjusted according to one’s body weight and activity level.  An athlete or very active individual would need more fat in his diet to support his energy demands while a sedentary person would need  much less.  So if you work on a farm or perform grueling CrossFit workouts on a regular basis, eat up.  If you sit behind a desk all day and your only exercise is picking up the remote, your caloric needs and fat intake will be much less.

Food for thought. . .
