July 2008 Fit Tip

I have a question for you all:  What one thing could you do (you aren’t doing now) that if you did on a regular basis, would make a tremendous positive difference in your health and fitness?

We’ll come back to the answer later.  First, let’s put this in perspective.  We’ve already established the fact that you primarily have control of your actions and are in charge.  You’ve already created the vision of what you want to achieve in the health and fitness arena in your mind or imagination; you’ve envisioned it and have seen your potential.  Next, we must physically create it; we must fulfill or actualize–the day-in, day-out, moment-by-moment habit of doing it by practicing effective self management.  What makes self management possible?  Your independent will–the ability to make decisions and choices and to act in accordance with them.

Put first things first; we all, myself included, waste time.  It may seem like we are always busy and most of us are but it is what we are often doing that is unproductive and a waste of time.  Endless emails and phone calls, surfing the net, constantly picking up after people be it employees, spouses or children, running errands.  Those things do need to be taken care of but not as often as most of us tend to them.  They are also not important in achieving our goals whether they are fitness or professional.  Many of the chores can be delegated or left.  Because no matter how hard we try we will NEVER catch up.  The house will not remain spotless, the inbox will not stay empty, the laundry basket will not stay empty, etc. . .  Now you can use this philosphy for your career/work as well as from a health and fitness standpoint.  If you wait for the perfect time to get in your exercise and develop clean nutritional habits it will never happen.  So, when you plan your week (what? you plan daily–try planning weekly); put in your calender, daytimer or blackberry the tasks for work and fitness that will make you successful and achieve your goals and work on them before anything else.  If you are a stay at home spouse you would apply this to your household duties and children in addition to fitness.  Plan your workouts; the days and times be it the gym, a tennis match or walks, plan your meals.  When you finish the important tasks (work/home duties, exercise/clean and nutritious meals) THEN you can catch up what you can on the “unimportant” stuff that I mentioned previously.  It will always be there.

Answer to the question?  By putting whatever you aren’t doing now “first” you will move closer and closer to your goals.  For help in reaching your health and fitness goals we are always here:  personal/ group training, private gym memberships, nutritional and lifestyle coaching, sport specific training and spartan training.  YOUR GOAL IS OUR GOAL!
